In the MBA series, l-methyl-l-(0-chloroethyl) ethylenimonium picrylsul-fonate (2) has been found to undergo a similar type ofcondensation with pyridine to form methyl-0-chloroethyl-jS-pyridiniumethyIamine (III). With nicotinic acid the analogous 3-carboxypyridinium derivative (IV) is formed. With thiodiglycol N-methyl-N-0-chloroethyl-N-ß-[N'-bis (0-hydroxyethyl) sulfonium] ethylamine (V) is obtained. The imonium compound also reacts with methyl-diethanolamine to form N-methyl-N-0-chloroethyl-N-ß-[N'-methyl-N'-bis (0-hy-droxyethyl) ammonium] ethylamine (VI), and with hexamethylene tetramine to yield the hexamethylene tetraminium derivative (VII).
