In about 1980, there appeared an excellent result due to M. Giaquinta and E. Giusti. The paper has successfully treated the partial regularity of minimizers of the functional F in the space HI. 2 (O; RM) and further obtained the result that the minimizers of F are regular on the whole domain 0, when {Af!} satisfies a so· called one-sided condition ([10]). In more detail, the paper has the result that the minimizers satisfy inequalities of Caccioppoli type and hence reverse Holder inequalities by the theory due to Gehring-Giaquinta-Modica ([3] and [4]).
