Tetra-cationic pyrene derivative (Py4+) and tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II) (Ru2+) were hybridized onto the surface of a synthesized clay. We observed the remarkable stimulation of excited Py4+emission quenching on the clay surface, with a very large apparent quenching rate constant (kq= 7.4 ± 0.7 × 1015L mol–1s–1).
