Distribution of Karst Karst exists throughout much of China and south-eastern Asia, covering 1.55 X 10 km"(6.04 X 10 mi") inChina, Northern Vietnam and south into the Malay peninsula. Ages of the limestone on which the karst is developed range from the Proterozoic through the Terriary with approximate percentages as follows: Proterozoic 8%, Lower Paleozoic 15%, Upper Paleozoic 66%, Mesozoic 11%. Additionally, one might include coastal karst formed on rccently uplifted reefs or reefs subaerially exposed during glacial periods and now submerged.
