The value of entomophagous arthropods (parasites and predators) in supressing pest populations has been well established. However, sufficient numbers are not always present or available to provide adequate control. Biological control by augmentation of predators and parasites that have been mass produced in insectaries provides a means of insuring the presence of numbers that are adequate to maintain pest populations at the desired level. The feasibility of this approach to pest control has been documented by Ridgway et al. (1974), Stinner (1977) and Rabb et al. (1976) and in other chapters of this book.
