40 ml. of catheterized urine were mixed with 10-20 ml. of 95% alcohol, centrifuged 10 mins. at 20,000 R.P.M. and the sediment spread with a wire loop on glass slides coated with albumin. The slides were fixed for 5-10 mins. with equal parts of 95% alcohol and ether and stained by the vaginal smear technic. Cancer was diagnosed from cellular abnormalities as in the vaginal smear technic. 70 men and 13 women were examined, and the results conclusively showed that urine sediment smears permit diagnosis of cancer. Comparison with clinical findings showed there were no false positives. This should not alone be considered a final method of diagnosis.
