to gather acceptance and momentum among scholars and practitioners alike. First introduced as an idea that held great potential (McBride, 1989), CT is now considered an idea whose time has come. It is defined as" reflective thinking that is used to make reasonable and defensible decisions about movement"(McBride, 1992, p. 115). Thus, CT is ideally suited to the physical education environment, where cognitive challenges must interact with movement-oriented activities. Though in its infancy, research on CT-PE does bear some promising results that have direct implications for physical education teachers. In this article, we survey the research on and about CT in physical education and attempt to apply it to the gymnasium (the physical education setting).
