About 50% of the women entering the nurses'' training school in Oslo gave negative Pirquet reactions, although about 85% of children in Oslo at the age of 9 were positive. In country districts the number of positive reactions among school children was less, but most of the nurses entering the training school came from the city. Medical students prior to entering the hospital at Oslo and military recruits were also negative to the Pirquet test in about 50% of the cases examined. The author assumes that the high percentage of negative Pirquet reactions among adults is due to healing of juvenile infection. In the course of 1-2 yrs.'' contact with cases of tuberculosis at the training school, negative Pirquet reactions among nurses became positive. The author injected 12 out of 23 nurses who were negative to the Pirquet test with 0.05 mgm. of B. C. G. subcutaneously. No untoward effect was noticed; the Pirquet reaction became positive. In the following few months, 4 of the unvaccinated nurses contracted tuberculosis, but none of the 12 inoculated with B. C. G.
