The clinical picture of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may be viewed as a combination of systemic symptoms associated with the inflammatory process and articular symptoms related both to potentially reversible synovitis and the structural damage brought on by the inflammatory process. Structural problems often require operative manner with a talented group of orthopedic surgeons and a chance to follow a large group of patients with this difficult disease for an extended period of time.
