The conditions which govern the spacing of the periodic markings which develop on {110} planes in Al single crystal during electropolishing have been examined. For spacings in the range 480-900 A a linear relation is obtained between the spacing and the time of polishing. It has been shown that the periodic markings can be used as a grazing-incidence diffraction grating for long wavelength x-rays such as C-K α and Be-K α radiations.
