Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the species transport in the Dense Product Layers (DPL) of specimens of archaeological artefacts coming from a single site. It presents the different corrosion systems that were found on the analyzed corpus and discusses the specific experiments made on the DPL. The aim of the first is to validate that both anodic and cathodic reactions take place at the Metallic Matrix (M)/DPL interface. To verify if the corrosion kinetics is controlled by the oxygen diffusion, the chapter presents three different ways to determine instantaneous corrosion rates. The first assumes that control is effectively by dissolved oxygen diffusion so that the determination of the oxygen apparent coefficient will be made. The second method to determine an instantaneous corrosion rate will quantify the number of oxygen atoms that have reacted during the 18 O immersion experiments. Lastly, a third instantaneous corrosion rate value was determined from an average corrosion rate deduced from the age of the specimen and the thickness of the corrosion products. These different values are discussed and assessed in the chapter.
