In order to be able to perform reliability or more generally stochastic analyses with realistic structures, it is proposed to combine advanced reliability programs with state of the art finite element packages. An interface is described and analysed which allows the coupling of any reliability program with any finite element package with minimal changes to both. The same interface can be used to couple structural optimization programs with a finite element package.
