Redox enzymes are ubiquitous in nature. Their importance in respiratory processes is well recognized, and they make equally significant contributions to both the removal of cytotoxins and the elemental cycling of Fe, N, C, and S on the global scale. Consequently, the protein film electrochemistry (PFE) provides a powerful tool for resolving enzyme activity to inform descriptions of cellular function and their application in biotechnology. The PFE provides a powerful tool for resolving enzyme activity to inform descriptions of cellular function and their application in biotechnology. When initiating studies of a new enzyme, cyclic voltammetry to be the most effective means to assess the electrochemical activity of a protein‐exposed electrode. The experimental setup for PFE is simple and versatile. Combined with a requirement for only miniscule amounts of enzyme, this allows for rapid interrogation of enzyme activity in numerous conditions.
