The elastic constants of GaP have been determined from Brillouin spectra with the 90° scattering geometry at room temperature. The photoelastic constants have also been estimated, where the intensity calibration was performed with fused quartz. The results are: C11=14.11±0.38, C12=6.26±0.25 and C44=7.03±0.12 in units of 1011 dyn/cm2, and |P11|=0.161±0.011, |P12|=0.088±0.007 and |P44|=0.073±0.004.
