We presentour recentprogressin filled pause(FP) modelingfor a highly spontaneous medicaltranscriptiontask.Our studiesconfirm thatFPmodelingis animportanttopicfor spontaneouspeech applications,which mustbeexplicitly addressedin acoustic,lexical, andlanguagemodeling. We provide a framework for datadriven lexical modelingof FPacousticvariability with respectto phonemicrealizationandduration.By usinganumberof properly weightedFPpronunciationvariantsof variablelengthsandapplying specificacousticmodelsfor FP, we achieved an 8% relative reductionof theworderrorrate. Wealsotesteddifferentapproaches for handlingFPin thelanguagemodelandintegratingFPinto thedecoder . Bestresultswith respecto bothperplexity andword errorratehave beenachieved by predictingFP probabilisticallyand removing it from the languagemodelhistory. This approachreducestheperplexity by 4% andprovidesa furthergainin word accuracy.
