Dusky(dy) is required for cytoskeletal reorganization during wing morphogenesis inDrosophila melanogaster, but which genes participate together withdyfor wing morphogenesis has remained unclear. InTribolium castaneum, dyis highly expressed at the late embryonic stage. Tissue‐specific expression analysis indicated high expression levels ofdyin the epidermis, head and fat body of late‐stage larvae. RNA interference (RNAi) targetingdysignificantly decreased adult wing size and caused improper folding of the elytra. Meanwhile, dyknockdown reduced the transcription offour‐jointed(fj) andforked(f). Our results show thatfjRNAi reduces adult wing size and that silencingfresults in abnormal wing folding inT. castaneum. Interestingly, knocking downfjandfsimultaneously phenocopiesdyRNAi, suggesting thatdyprobably acts upstream offjandfto regulate wing morphogenesis inT. castaneum.
