This is another of those “handbooks” which almost demand a trolley for their transport but, this said, it is otherwise to be welcomed into the rapidly growing literature of geophysics. It originated in 1957 in the Geophysics Research Directorate as a handbook of geophysical data for internal consum.ption and for the U.S. Air Force’s engineers and designers and was not available to scientists generally. Having proved its worth it has been revised and enlarged and is now on sale to the public. In terms of dollars per pound weight it is not expensive but with better arrangement and lay-out, thinner paper, etc., it could probably have been reduced to about two-thirds its size and been the more handleable.
