Organic electrical conductors have been the subject of current interest. It has been recognized that doping is an important process for the preparation of electrically conducting polymers. The doping, which is a charge-transfer reaction, has been achieved chemically in many It has also been shown that doping is achieved electrochemically3-~, as found for, eg, p~ lyacetylene~), pol~(pyrrole)~), phthalocyaninatopolysiloxane6), or poly (N-vinylcarbazole) 9. This paper reports on a simple technique for the electrochemical doping of insulating polymers to transform them into conducting polymers, which is termed here electrochemical deposition (ECD) method, its characteristic features, and the results obtained for poly (viny1ferrocene). To the best of our knowledge, the present study presents the first example of the preparation of an electrically conducting, partially oxidized poly (viny1ferrocene) by electrochemical methods. The voltammetry of poly (viny1ferrocene) 8, 9, and the electrode modification using poly (viny1ferrocene) have been studied. It has been reported that the cyclic voltammogram for the oxidation of poly (viny1ferrocene) in dichloromethane exhibits a peak distortion, and that this is caused by strong adsorption of the oxidized have prepared a poly (viny1-ferrocene)-coated platinum electrode electrochemically and studied the electrochemical properties of this surface-modified electrode. The present method for the electrochemical doping that transforms insulating polymers into conducting polymers is based on these works.
