In this paper, the vibration of compensation elevator rope with time-varying length in a high-rise building is analyzed. A control method is proposed to reduce the vibration of the rope under external force. The length of the ropes varies when the elevator systems operate, it leads to some parameters of the system such as mass, damping, and stiffness also vary. The governing nonstationary nonlinear equations are solved numerically to investigate the vibration of compensation rope. An active device control is used to reduce the sway of the string in cases moving cage. The results of a simulation indicated the effectiveness of the control method.
