Abstract From the 31st of October to the 3rd of November, 1994, the city of Niigata on the shore of the sea of Japan hosted the International Symposium on the Physics of Unstable Nuclei. More than 190 physicists responded to the invitation of the chairman of ISPUN, Professor K. Ikeda, and of the conference secretary, Dr. Y. Suzuki, to come and discuss the results on the physics of nuclei far from stability presented by more than fifty speakers. This number, as well as the number of contributions (more than 80) and posters (more than 50), gives a measure of the interest raised in Japan and abroad by this branch of nuclear structure.
