BackgroundThe Dementias Platform UK https://www. dementiasplatform. uk/discover-dpuk is a growing international collaboration of> 40 cohorts designed to provide global data access to cohort data. The DPUK Data Portal is a secure and robust data storage and analysis environment that provides a full data upload, curation and access management service. The Portal operates a ‘bring researchers to the data’model as an elegant solution to the challenge of accessing increasingly large, complex and sensitive datasets. The Portal may be accessed remotely from any location with desktop computing facilities and web connectivity.MethodsCohort research teams are provided with easy to use data upload tools. Data are accepted on as ‘as is’ basis and curated to a common standard prior to being made available for research use. Cohort research teams retain ownership of the data and all access requests require approval from the data owners. DPUK coordinates access requests enabling data from multiple cohorts to be made with a single request. All analyse are conducted from within the data portal and datasets cannot downloaded. Data can be removed from the portal upon request from the data owners. Facilities supporting the use of the Portal by consortia are available.ResultsData upload is ongoing. Metadata available for 39 cohorts with data being available for over 600,000 individuals. It is anticipated this number will rise by a further 1.5 M over the next 12 months. Since the Portal launch in November 2017, 12 projects have been supported and this number is expected to rise as awareness of the facility increases.ConclusionsThe DPUK Data Portal is a unique resource for multi-cohort analyses, providing the world's richest source of dementia focussed cohort data. DPUK welcomes collaboration with further cohorts and consortia and invites data access applications from bona-fide researchers in academe and industry.
