Light, electron microscopic, and tissue and organ culture observations are reported on an unusual example of cerebellar and brainstem glioma in a 14‐year‐old girl, which showed the concomitant picture of diffusely infiltrating astrocytoma and focal medulloblastoma. Although the in vitro studies on this neoplasm demonstrated progressive differentiation from primitive medulloblastoma cells into astrocytes rich in glial filaments, the tumor as a whole was interpreted as an exceptional case of diffuse cerebellar astrocytoma dedifferentiating into medulloblastoma. The reasons for this interpretation are given, and the case is discussed in the light of the controversial views regarding the differentiating capabilities of the medulloblastoma.
