Higher education has been influenced internationally from its beginning through the movement of students, academics and ideas across national borders. However, due to the growing global cultural flows, internationalisation has become an increasingly important agenda for many universities around the world. Internationalisation of universities can be discussed from various angles including the flow of incoming and outgoing students, transnational education programs, the internationalisation of curricula, and international collaborative research. This paper focuses on the impact of using English as a language of instruction in Japanese universities, in relation to the Short-Term Student Exchange Promotion Program (STSEPP).
