Pulsed NMR and nonradiative energy transfer (NRET) measurements on blends of s-PMMA and PVC are described. Sources of the small-scale heterogeneity evidentin all blends are discussed. Although it was not possible to arrive at a definitive model of this small-scale heterogeneity, consideration was given to factors which had important bearing on the miscibility achieved:(i) the method of mixing used andthe relative sensitivity of the investigative techniques used,(ii) theeffects of tacticity, molecular weight, and polydispersity on polymer-polymer miscibility, and (iii) the difference in the solubilization power of PVC for PMMA and PMMA for PVC.
