The role of wearables in medicine has become a subject of great interest, as these tools can provide clinicians with access to real-time clinical data and the potential to take early action to prevent deterioration and institute adequate treatment. In the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, it has become challenging for physicians and other healthcare professionals to perform routine follow-ups for outpatients suffering with chronic lung diseases. Given how vulnerable these patients can be to decompensation and requiring aggressive interventions, there is an unmet need for tools that permit healthcare professionals to remotely monitor changes in biomarkers and clinical status. We review three papers that study the performance of wearables and implantable devices in the context of lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, and postdischarge surveillance.■
