This chapter provides an overview of live imaging and video bioinformatics. It introduces the term of video bioinformatics and provides motivation for a deeper understanding of dynamic living processes in life sciences. It outlines computational challenges in understanding dynamic biological processes and a conceptual way of addressing them. The themes covered in the book range from oragnaismal dynamics to intercellular and intracellular dynamics with associated software systems. This chapter gives an overview of different parts of the book and a synopsis of each subsequent chapter.
