In general, the tertiary mudstone, which is classified into the soft rock, is subjected to the effect of slaking. In this investigation, in order to investigate the effects of drying, submergence and freezing on the slaking properties of mudstone, five kinds of slaking tests with various environmental conditions were performed on the parent materials of mudstone. After various slaking tests, the measurements of pore diameter and pore volume distributions of mudstone were carried out with porosimeter apparatus. Also, X-ray analysis was performed on the mudstone subjected to the effect of slaking. The changes in pore distribution and mineral composition due to the slaking were investigated.
