A recently developed complete second-order diffraction theory for axisymmetric bodies is here applied to the nonlinear high-frequency resonant wave excitation and resultant motions and tendon loads of a tension-leg platform. The solution of the second-order problem, including contributions of the nonlinear potential, for the sum-frequency forces and moments on a single leg are obtained for an arbitrary combination of two incident-wave frequencies. These results are applied to a full TLP for the total high-frequency excitation, response, and tendon tension loads. For irregular ambient waves, the spectrum and rms of the loads are also obtained. It is found that the present predictions are 2-3 times greater than approximations which exclude the effects of the nonlinear potential. The neglect of second-order potential effects may be the primary cause of the observed large discrepancies between measurements and wave loads calculations of the TLP
