A maximal function is introduced for distributions acting on certain spaces of Lipschitz functions defined on spaces of homogeneous type. A decomposition into atoms for distributions whose maximal functions belong toLp,p⩽ 1, is obtained, as well as, an approximation theorem of these distributions by Lipschitz functions.
