In spite of a large body of information abont the propagation of excitation in nerve fiber, very seldom has the unit of activity, the single impulse, been followed in a single fiber over any considerable distancc. Korrnally it has been observed as it passes a pair of points occupied by recording electrodes. The phenomena to be described in the present paper have been ericouritercd during or have required for their recognition simultaneous recording from 2, 3, or 4 pairs of electrodes and, correspondingly, the single impulse lias been closely followed over sorile distance. Typically, it lias been visualized as it passes electrodes 1 to 2 mm apart over a centimeter or more of length of the nerve fiber. This has been combirietl with repetitiw stimulation and sometimes imposed electrical polarization to predispose a given region to failure under repetitive bonibardineiit. It is during the stages of progressive (but reversible) fatigue that most of these arioiiialics of cm-ductioii 1. ia1-e been seen. There tvill be here described tlie following: one-way block, impnl~ e-trig::# ered after-discharge,
