The proteins rapidly associated with VSV ribonucleoprotein complexes were found to be L, NS, and N; this association rendered nascent replicating RNA molecules resistant to RNase. Treatment of VSV-infected cells with cycloheximide and examination of the proteins associated with the RNPs showed that there was a pool of L, NS, and N that perhaps allowed replication to continue for approximately 20 min after cessation of protein synthesis.
