To investigate long-term gravity changes around the Kussharo Caldera in eastern Hokkaido, Japan, data from the superconducting gravimeter (iGrav# 17), which has been continuously observed at the Teshikaga Observatory of Hokkaido University since November 2018, were analyzed. As a result of analyzing the data over 703 days from the start of the observation, a characteristic gravity change was detected, with a gradual decrease during the period of increasing snow cover and a sharp increase during the snowmelt period. This gravity change can be explained mainly by the effect of subsurface soil water content changes, but to quantify the amount of the effect, the stopping of infiltration of precipitation from the bottom of the snow cover into the soil and the attraction effect of the mass of snow cover are required during the winter months. Removing the land-water gravity change modeled in this study from the observations shows a gravity increase, but quantification of the rate of secular gravity changes and its cause remains a future study.
