Measuring the effect of food safety standards on China's agricultural exports

根据中国近年来与发达国家农产品贸易争端的经验，中国的出口可能会受到非关税壁垒的限制。通过回归分析，利用农产品贸易的引力模型，检验了残留标准对我国蔬菜（毒死蜱MRL）和水产品（土霉素MRL）出口的影响。结果表明，进口国食品安全标准对我国农产品出口有显著的负向影响。食品安全标准的贸易效应远大于进口关税的贸易效应。
According to China's recent experiences in agricultural trade disputes with the developed countries, China's exports might be constrained by nontariff barriers. The significance of these barriers is assessed in regression analyses by using a gravity model of agricultural product trade to test the effect of the residue standards on China's export of vegetables (Chlorpyrifos MRL) and aquatic products (Oxytetracycline MRL). The results show that food safety standards imposed by importing countries have a negative and statistically significant effect on China's export of agricultural products. The trade effect of food safety standards is much larger than that of the import tariff.
