Blue adaptation and orange adaptation are used to isolate the contributions of the visual subsystems to the lamina response of D. melanogaster. Besides the prominent on-transient and off-response, the extracellular lamina response also contains an attenuated component from retinula cells R7 and R8. Flicker fusion frequencies measured in the lamina range are indistinguishable from those measured in the receptor region. The response mediated by receptor cells R1-R6 fuses at a 3-fold higher frequency than the R7 and R8 response.
