In an extensive investigation of the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems in 12 healthy volunteers it was found that administration of 20 mg prednisolone per day for 11 days increased the AHF-content and tended to induce a hypofibrinolytic condition. Histochemical analysis of biopsies of superficial veins revealed that the plasminogen activator content of the specimens was decreased and thereby showed for the first time that a drug can interact with the plasminogen activator content in the vessel walls.
