. Neuropathological Aspects of Hypsarrhythmia. Neurop'ddiatrie 1 : 277 — 294 (1970). Postmortem examination of the brains of 12 epileptic children with the characteristic EEG pattern of hypsarrhythmia. 8 of them showing typical infantile spasms, disclosed perinatal and postnatal encephalopathies in 8 cases (sequelae of birth injuries, early infantile meningitis and subdural haematoma) and cerebral malformations in four. A review of the neuropatholo-gicad data in the pertinent literature indicates that this type of epilepsy is present in a wide range of infantile encephalopathies of different aetiology. Infantile spasms and/or hypsar-rhythmia are considered a nonspecific response of the infantile brain to a variety of noxae. Hypsarrhythmia Infantile Spasms
