The Kafa people live in Kafa Province, southwest Ethiopia, in the territory which is bounded by the Gojeb River on the east and the Omo River on the south. To the north they are bordered by the peoples of the defunct kingdom of Gera, and to the west there lie the regions of the Maji, Gimira, and Masongo peoples. The Kafa speak a language which is part of the Western Cushitic division of the AfroAsiatic phylum of languages.
