alone member of the PROTEOMICS Family of journals. The aim of PROTEOMICS–Clinical Applications is to be the premier source of information in the field of the application of proteomics to the study of human disease and translation to the clinic. The journal will publish papers in all relevant areas of clinical proteomics including: basic proteomic research designed to further understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying dysfunction in human disease, the results of proteomic studies dedicated to the discovery and validation of diagnostic and prognostic disease biomarkers, the use of proteomics for the discovery of novel drug targets, the application of proteomics in the drug development pipeline, and the use of proteomics as a component of clinical trials. The new journal will be published monthly during 2007 and will have its own policy and editorial boards. Some of the Senior Editors of the PROTEOMICS mother journal are joined by four new Senior Editors, Gilbert Omenn (Ann Arbor, MI, USA), O. John Semmes (Norfolk, VA, USA), Roz Banks (Leeds, UK) and Timothy Veenstra (Frederick, MD, USA), all of whom have a particular interest in clinical proteomics. The expertise of the Editorial Board in the area of clinical proteomics is considerably strengthened by the appointment of more than twenty new members whose research interests are focused in this area. While the majority of the 12 issues of PROTEOMICS–Clinical Applications that will be published during 2007 will be regular issues, we will also be producing Special Issues devoted to collections of papers devoted to important and emerging areas of clinical proteomics. The first of these Special Issues, to be published as issue 8 (August 2007) will have Roz Banks (Leeds, UK) as Guest Editor and will focus on Body Fluids. We have also planned to publish an issue devoted to reviews of hot topics in clinical proteomics (issue 9, September 2007). Future Special Issues that are still in the planning stage to be published in the first three volumes of PROTEOMICS–Clinical Applications include Neuroproteomics (Gert Lubec), Cardiovascular Proteomics (Jennifer Van Eyk and Manuel Mayr), Biobanking and Pre-analytical Aspects (Denis Hochstrasser and Scott Patterson), Renal and Urinary Proteomics (Visith Thongboonkerd), Comparison of Proteomics and Chemical Genetics for Analysis of Drug Effects and Actions (Bill Jordan) and Cancer Proteomics (Serhiy Souchelnytskyi).
