Sponges of the genus Plakortis have yielded a number of biosynthetically diverse natural products. For example, a Plakortis species was recently reported to contain the novel heteroaromatic pigments the plakinidines. 1 Other members of this genus produce interesting terpenoid2 or polyketide3 derived metabolites, many of whichcontain cyclic peroxides.
