Summary In Part I we present some semantic facts indicating that definite descriptions and proper names have certain semantic properties in common with quantifiers. In Part II we present a notation in which these semantic facts can be accounted for by extending the notation used for quantifiers to that for names. And in Part III we show that this notation can be used to solve the “sloppy identity problem” posed by Ross. 1
