Although the family and the community are central to the provision of care for people with HIV and AIDS groups can also stigmatize their members. This book examines the diversity of family and community responses to HIV and AIDS. Organized into 13 chapters it offers important insights into factors that lead to positive responses and those which trigger negative ones. Chapter 1 and 2 present the experience of families of children with HIV infection and the African refugee children and HIV/AIDS in London respectively. Chapter 3 stresses gender and local mobilization in Tanzania and Zambia while chapter 4 emphasizes gender disclosure care and decision making in Kwazulu-Natal South Africa. Chapter 5 provides the narratives of care love and commitment on AIDS/HIV and non-heterosexual family formations. Moreover chapter 6 determines whether gay bars are an appropriate context for a community-based peer-led intervention. Chapter 7 discusses social networks of gay men and HIV prevention. An ethnographic study of Londons cottages and cruising areas is presented in chapter 8 while chapter 9 touches on Sydney gay mens agreements about sex. Chapter 10 describes young gay men and HIV risk. Furthermore a new method of peer-led HIV prevention with gay and bisexual men is emphasized in chapter 11. A qualitative investigation on sexual risk taking and HIV testing is examined in chapter 12. Finally chapter 13 presents a multidisciplinary challenge on treatment education.
