Insight assessed by semistructured interviews or/and self-rated scales may reflect the attitude of the patient toward mental illness rather than their insight into illness (Hasson-Ohayon, 2018). Poor insight is a significant contributor to poor clinical outcomes in schizophrenia, whereas better insight has also been associated with emotional distress such as depression (Belvederi Murri et al., 2016). Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy, developed by Lysaker et al.(2019), aims to promote the process of recovery from mental illness through metacognitive training. The uniqueness of Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy is that the intervention does not explicitly seek to improve insight. Such interventions aimed at improving insight indirectly may protect the patient's mental health and lead to better insight.
