We take the time constraints obtained from recent observations of rapid TeV variability of minute‐scale flares in TeV Blazars, and combine them with the time‐scale estimates of different particle acceleration mechanisms. We compare the processes and estimate their suitability in producing sufficiently high‐energy particles in short enough time to have significance in being able to (i) energise particles to produce rapid flaring, (ii) account for gradual acceleration that could explain the energy‐dependent time delays in a recent gamma‐ray flare of Markarian 501. We are able to exclude the neutron‐based converter mechanism and the shear acceleration as the main processes for energisation of the radiating particles, and suggest the stochastic acceleration as a promising candidate for the time delay in Mkn 501.
