Cattle breeders often wish to compare the genetic merit of bulls from other countries to that of bulls from their own country. This paper proposes a general method of predicting breeding values in one country from progeny test results in another that does not make the assumption of no genotype .times. environment interaction and which requires few external parameter estimates. The method is used to predict breeding values in Australia from the sire evaluations in New Zealand of Friesian bulls.
