Building bridges is an innovative programme for developing nurses, midwives and health visitors in Wales. In May 1996, the NHS Staff College in Wales set up a think tank to examine the issue of management development for nurses. Participants concluded that a group of executive nurses should draw up proposals for nurse development with support from the Staff College.
