In 5 non-related patients 18.6 ± 8.9 years old with X-linked hypophosphataemic rickets the intramyocellular inorganic phosphate (Pi) concentration was less than that of 5 age- and sex-matched normal subjects. The concentration increased rapidly, within 24 h, in the patients after the start of standard phosphate-calcitriol treatment. The increase of intramyocellular Piwas observed with magnetic resonance spectroscopy, despite the fact that there was no apparent increase in the fasting serum Piconcentrations of the patients after treatment.
