This special issue includes a selection of articles presented at the 16th International Symposium on Bioinformatics Research and Applications (ISBRA 2020) which was held in Moscow, Russia, on December 1–4, 2020. ISBRA provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and results among researchers, developers, and practitioners working on all aspects of bioinformatics and computational biology and their applications.In 2020, 131 abstracts were submitted in response to the call for articles, out of which 23 extended abstracts and 18 short abstracts appeared in the ISBRA proceedings published as volume 12,304 of Springer Verlag’s Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics series. Authors of 15 articles were invited to submit extended versions of their abstracts to this two-part special issue. The second part contains the following seven articles.
