Dear Editor: Oral mucositis (OM) is a common adverse event occurring in 20%–80% of patients receiving chemotherapy. 1, 2 Severe OM pain is usually treated with transdermal, injection or oral administration of opioids. However, sufficient pain relief has not been achieved in OM patients using opioid preparations, and alternative therapeutic options are required. We have previously reported that an indomethacin spray (IM-Sp), prepared as a topical solution (0.25% of IM), is safe and effective for OM treatment in patients with blood cancer. 3, 4 However, IM-Sp requires a two-hour preparation by pharmacists, representing a drawback for large-scale use inOM patients. Therefore, we developed an IM-mouthwash (IM-MW), which takes only three to five minutes for preparation and can be prepared by the patients at home. IM-MW was prepared using INTEBAN® SP. In brief, 1 capsule of INTEBAN® SP containing 25mg of IM was dissolved in 90mL of water at 90 C and shaken for three minutes. Once the solution reached room temperature, patients can use 10 mL solution for a 30-second MW (and spit out) before meals.
