Sympathetic ophthalmia is a bilateral granulomatous panuveitis occurring after an injury to the uvea of one eye [20, 29, 57, 89]. With rare exceptions, the injury involves a penetrating wound resulting from trauma or surgery. The wounded eye is then termed the exciting or sympathogenic eye, and the contralateral eye is termed the sympathizing eye. The disorder has an insidious onset and a progressive course marked by frequent periods of exacerbation. This disease is characterized histopathologically by a nodular or diffuse infiltration of the uvea composed of lymphocytes and macrophages [33].
