Given the significance of malnutrition or wasting in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), nutrition counseling is an important part of the treatment of HIV (1), yet studies of the nutrition attitudes and practices of people with HIV have been limited. Existing research in this area has focused almost exclusively on white, educated, homosexual men, and often ignores minority populations (2-4).
